Hooking DSL Linux: Ideas for Linux with DSL...
1. Open and/or Get a PPPoE tool(This is the software drivers!)and
get running to complete setup! After this is completed,
You can just open a browser and work with your individual
ISP(Finest Planet, SBC, Cruzio) .
2. Type console command -> pon dsl-provider
3. Open up konquerer browser to the modem's ip address(manual)
IMPORTANT note*: Stay away from those little network
icons on linux desktop or under your menu, use these PPPoE clients;
they will just make it confusing and are NOT required! Linux does
NOT need any candied gui to surf the internet.

I use "pppoeconf" came with my Ubuntu 2008, [IMPORTANT]: check your utilities to see if you already have one installed-if so use It. Also, a universal one: Roaring Penguin.
Once
Found: go into a terminal mode(or click on icon if one) and run
it to configure with your ISP user name and password given to you by
support. Konquerer is recommended for AT&T because it is the only
one that is compatible with their registration page.
In terminal mode I put "sudo
pppoeconf" to launch, then you will configure with an ID and Password(I
use my AT&T Id and Password).
After it will give you the option to connect with command "sudo
pon dsl-provider". The dsl-provider is not generic; it is
what you type.
Then I just open a browser(Firefox) and I am surfing. I no-longer
have to do any commands; I then just can goto Firefox and surf. I call
this the Techtopia way.

Get as
much info as you can from Your ISP support(ID and Password) and Open yout modems manual!
You do not need to use a Network Manager to have the connection, but one may be used afterwards to edit/work with the connection as desktop application.
Maybe A new place for Roaring
Penguin PPPoE tool file rp-pppoe-3.10.tar.gz on Finest Planet's Setup
Page under DSL Linux Software. w/ a copy of manuals and this page(Help)
could be made by Sysop ;)...
I had problems with even Big Dog isp because of non-updated HTML websites.
So
using Konquerer was my only way out to navigate with a generic id and
password to log on service to create an account id and password..
All though I could of called
India again- where I would have to "Do WORK!" to have them go onto
their
special registeration page to be validated by entering a new ID and
personal Password;
which would be like lighting a branch with water. All I
need was to know that while connected physically to them I had to enter
their generic user name ID and Password to FINISH the setup!

Maybe the DSL without CD, below, Finest Planet basic modem comes with cd without Linux drivers to use; directions are needed to config linux.
Modem User Manual gives info offered on modem type. Every modem may have different Companies ip page # to go to. ID and Password may be "admin and admin" should be in manual.
"http://192.168.1.254 in the URL Address text box". with current Motorola modem.
Start
a browser with this url in Browser. Or whatever your modem manual, like
my first FP DSL modem(4100) it is 192.168.00 in the url box after
connection.
What helped me get started....

The "DSL without CD" setup for AT&t (Helped me for the generic id and password WITH the right browser to use, Only konquerer can be used to register with AT&T webpage button. You'll see.

Messing
with Linux and a new love for an old guitar has brought me back to the
guitar effects and audio parts of the computer system. I was
fortunate enough to keep an eye out on all the latest linux distros
while "MUSiX"
1.0r3 was
released. Musix can be used along side your current operating
system as a Live CD to try a bounty of music/audio lovers applications!
The great thing about this CD is one does not have to compile
or
configure libraries to run many of these apps, the distro has made it
easy by having everything you need right in it.
After
buying the compilation at OSDisc.com, I had a problem with our new mail
person accidently sending it to somewhere-not my house. I emailed sales
at OSDisc, and after going through a basic sec. check, the people at OSDisc.com
were nice enough to send me another copy via 2-day priority without
charging me the extra cost for faster shipping. If you would
like
to check out a Live CD for fun or a full Linux OS Install CD
Pack,
go to OSDISC for some cool, inexpensive, and different CD's to sample.

Jumped
ship to Linux after seeing what was supposed to be the next level of
forward progress, named Vista. I haven't been happier. It
takes a
little work to plant the seed, but the fruits keep on getting sweeter.
Words of wisdom: learn Linux now while it's still
early or
buy an Apple.
